I find a deep meaning in working with clay. This journey teaches me to respect the passage of time, shows me how much attempts, evolution and persistence are essentials, just as we should be able to face life and all its surprises.
In un colpo, la tecnica Raku è emersa come la sintesi perfetta delle forze vulcaniche. Terra e fuoco, fumo e cenere, acqua e vapore, energie ataviche che da sempre mi affascinano. Esattamente come sull’orlo di un cratere, dove le stesse forze primitive si spingono inesorabilmente, si può percepire l’imprevisto, l’effimero, l’instante in tutta la sua bellezza. E così è nata la serie Merapi, un’interpretazione suggestiva del vulcano indonesiano.
All of a sudden, the Raku technique emerged as the perfect synthesis of volcanic forces. Earth and fire, smoke and ash, water and steam, atavistic energies that have always fascinated me. Just as on the rim of a crater, where the same primitive forces inexorably push each other, one can perceive the unexpected, the ephemeral and the instant in all its beauty. And so the Merapi series was born, an evocative interpretation of the Indonesian volcano.
